Mahshid F. Hager
Hello and welcome. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California, Somatic Experiencing® practitioner and SEI faculty member. I have a private practice in San Diego, California where I focus my work on providing individual and group case consultations to SE students at all levels. One of my greatest passions is making the SE curriculum more accessible and digestible and helping students integrate their learning into their work and life.
Over the past 10 years, I have assisted SE trainings at all levels with several faculty members as well as multiple post-advanced Master Classes with Dr. Peter Levine. This has deepened my understanding of the SE frame work and has prepared me well for my role as a teacher and for creating a classroom that is inclusive and welcoming to all students.
My professional career has spanned 20+ years and included working for various non-profit organizations, offering therapeutic services to school aged children and their families, providing trauma healing treatment to clients from all walks of life in my private practice, and volunteering for non-profit organizations in San Diego that offer resources to incoming refugees. I am originally from Tehran, Iran and the plight of the refugee population is near and dear to my heart. My family fled to Germany after the Iranian Revolution and a few years into the Iran/Iraq war. After high school, I immigrated to San Diego, where I now reside with my husband and two sons.
In my spare time I enjoy traveling, hiking and writing.

Tyler Grillo
Tyler Grillo (Berkeley, California) is a Strozzi Institute Certified Somatic Coach, who is committed to partnering with people on their transformative journey towards deeper fulfillment and aliveness—a process he sees as inherently linked to broader social transformation. He knows that everyone has a gift to offer the world, and works to create a space where these gifts can be realized, wrestled with, and actualized. Grounded in an understanding of our diverse human experiences, he sees our shared desires for dignity, safety, and belonging as intimately connecting us. Having grown up in the mountains of Colorado, he also has a deep connection with nature. In his coaching work, Tyler offers a welcoming and trusting space for folks to explore what they most care about, what new actions they want to take in their lives, and the practices that allow them to embody their fullest selves. While engaging with clients, he is constantly wondering, “What’s trying to come to life? What’s trying to be expressed?” His coaching is also shaped by his shamanic practice and commitment to social justice. Tyler previously served as Course Manager and Program Manager for Strozzi Institute, bringing a depth of knowledge of the Institute’s somatic methodology to his coaching.
This program provides a foundational introduction to the Strozzi Somatics methodology and practice and is the entry point for those wishing to continue into their Somatic Coach Certification Program and other advanced courses.
We are what we practice, and we are always practicing something.

The Embodied Journey
What is Embodied Transformation?
Embodied Transformation is a practice-based approach to personal and leadership growth. It integrates awareness, movement, and relational exercises that help you:
- Stay grounded under pressure
- Break free from old patterns that hold you back
- Build resilience and clarity in challenging times
- Cultivate presence that inspires trust and connection
This isn’t just about learning concepts. It’s about practicing new ways of being, so they become who you are, not just what you know.
Real transformation isn’t just an idea, it’s something you feel and embody. When your body, heart, and mind are aligned, you create the conditions for lasting change, not just quick fixes.
If you’re ready to step into a more centered, powerful, and connected version of yourself, this program offers the practices and support to help you get there.
Embodied transformation means the body itself carries the change. It’s not just an idea in the mind, but a new way of being practiced and lived through the whole self. This integration of mind, body, and emotions makes change sustainable, it’s not about “acting” differently, but becoming different in a way that feels natural.
In this way, transformation becomes a lived experience. It takes root in your whole being, so it becomes who you are rather than something you have to keep reminding yourself to do.
